What size inverter and battery do I need to beat load shedding?

For a typical South African home running lights, Wi-Fi, a TV and a fridge, a 3kW–5kW inverter paired with a 5kWh lithium battery covers essentials for several hours. Larger homes or those running geysers and pumps need an 8kW+ hybrid inverter and 10kWh or more of battery storage.

How much does a load shedding backup kit cost in South Africa?

Entry-level inverter-and-battery load shedding kits start from a few thousand rand, while complete hybrid solar systems with panels and lithium batteries range higher depending on capacity. Solar Power Space stocks options across budgets, with free shipping within South Africa on orders above R55,000 and all prices including VAT.

Do you deliver solar products across South Africa?

Yes. Solar Power Space delivers nationwide across all nine provinces from its base in Upington, Northern Cape. Orders above R55,000 qualify for free shipping within South Africa.

What is the difference between a hybrid and an off-grid solar inverter?

A hybrid inverter connects to the grid and batteries at once, charging from solar or Eskom and switching to battery during load shedding. An off-grid inverter runs entirely on solar and battery with no grid connection, suited to remote sites with no Eskom supply.
